In Amnéville which is the most recent of the spas, water is drawn from a natural spring 900 metres below ground level and arrives in the spa at temperature of more than 41° C! The spring water in Saint-Eloy is known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects and a large amount of recreational amenities.

Bains-les-Bains provides treatment for cardiovascular disease, rheumatology and is set in beautiful surroundings. Contrexéville, which is the European capital of weight loss and healthy eating, acquired its reputation for it spa in the 18th century. Water from the Souveraine and Pavillon springs is used to treat kidney disease and liver disorders. In Plombières-les-Bains, there are 27 hot springs which supply the water at temperatures of between 57° C and 84° C and has many healing properties including analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, relaxing, sedative and vasodilating. Vittel's water treats a range of ailments including rheumatism, urinary infections and gastric disorders.

Not only do spa towns receive visitors for their health benefits, but they also attract many visitors for their architecture. For example, Plombières-les-Bains is known as the “town of a thousand
balconies”. In Vittel, the pump rooms were designed by Charles Garnier who also designed the Opera House in Paris. Not only has Contrexéville have a fully-renovated spa centre which was originally built in the early 20th century in a neo-Byzantine style, but it also has an Art Nouveau casino! Plus the stunning enamelled lava and Carrare marble fountains in the town centre are more recent additions to the town.
